UMW Softball Splits Pair in Season Opening Twinbill in Myrtle Beach

The University of Mary Washington softball team split a pair of Tuesday games at the Snowbird Spring Training event in Myrtle Beach, S.C. UMW fell to Indiana Wesleyan, 3-0, before topping King's College, 8-2.

In the opener, the Eagles fell despite two hits from Hannah Williams, and hits from Emily Briggs, Zoie Patrick, Olivia Tatara, and Malia Rogers. Senior Hannah Otterman took the loss, allowing eight hits and two walks in seven innings.

The Eagles rebounded to top King's College, 8-2. Senior pitcher Rachel Watts pitched a seven-inning two-hitter in gaining the win. Offensively, Alex Tenney drove in a pair of runs, scored a pair, and had a double and two singles. Tatara had a pair of hits, while Hannah Hautz had an RBI double, and Williams had two hits and an RBI.

Mary Washington will return to action on Wednesday when they face John Jay at 11:30 and Rosemont at 1:30.
