Eagles Bounce Back to Sweep Penn State-Harrisburg on Thursday

Middletown, Pa.-- The University of Mary Washington softball team defeated the Lions 1-0 in the opener, and 7-3 in the nightcap. UMW moves to 13-10, 6-4 CAC on the year.

Game one saw a pitching duel between Hannah Otterman, and Lions pitcher Hartman. Neither team could break through on the scoreboard, as the game went scoreless into the sixth. UMW scored the lone run in the contest, off an Otterman single in the sixth. The junior singled to center, scoring Kate Chisholm. Otterman pitched a masterful game, only giving up four hits in seven innings for the win.

The nightcap saw the Eagles put up a three spot in the second inning to take control. With Hannah Williams and Grace Henry on base, senior Brianna D'Agata smacked a triple to right center to score two. Chisholm followed up with single the very next at bat to plate D'Agata.

The Eagles put up a four spot in the fourth to cruise to the victory. Stefannie Asselanis hit a sac fly to score Henry, giving UMW a 4-0 lead. Zoie Patrick followed that up with a single, scoring Hannah Williams with D'Agata moving up to third. Brittany Scites unloaded the bases with a triple to score D'Agata and Patrick, increasing the Eagle lead to 7-0.

Penn State-Harrisburg tried to mount a comeback with three in the sixth, but Hannah Otterman came in to close the door on the run. UMW won the nightcap 7-3, behind 5.2 innings from Rachel Watts. Scites and D'Agata each had two RBI's, as Hannah Williams went 4 for 4 in the game.

UMW returns to the diamond on Saturday, April 12th, when they travel to Salisbury to close out the CAC portion of the schedule. The double dip with the Sea Gulls begins at 12:00 p.m.
