UMW Drops Pair to Frostburg State on Saturday

Fredericksburg, Va.-- The University of Mary Washington softball team fell in a twinbill against the Bobcats on Saturday. UMW was blanked 5-0 in game one, and fell 5-4 in the nightcap. The Eagles are 11-8, 4-2 CAC on the year. 

Game one saw the Eagles muster just four hits in the contest. Brittany Scites, Erica Falvey, Lindsey Aylor and Alex Tenney provided the hits for the Eagles. Hannah Otterman went a complete game, seven innings, giving up nine hits and five runs, while striking out nine batters. Frostburg got runs in the first and third innings in the win.

UMW got out to a good start in game two, scoring in their half of the first inning. Brittany Scites singled, scoring Stefannie Asselanis on the play. Frostburg answered the very next inning with a home run from Renay Aubel. The Eagles retook the lead in the third, with an RBI single from Alex Tenney, scoring Grace Henry.

Frostburg would take the lead right back in the fourth, scoring four runs to take a 5-2 advantage. The Eagles cut into the deficit and saw themselves trailing by only one, following a two run fifth inning. Hannah Williams smacked a single into center, allowing Henry and Scites to score. UMW had runners on second and third in the seventh, but failed to get them home, falling 5-4 to the Bobcats in game two.

Rachel Watts took the loss, allowing four runs on five hits in just 3.1 innings.

UMW returns to the field Monday, April 7th, when they travel to Penn State-Harrisburg for a double dip against the Lions. Game one is set to begin at 3:00 p.m.
