Eagles Sweep Doubleheader With York (Pa.); Remain Perfect in CAC Play

York, Pa.-- The University of Mary Washington softball team picked up two wins against the Spartans on Wednesday. The Eagles won 4-0 in game one, and 2-0 in the nightcap to move to 9-6, 4-0 CAC on the year. 

Olivia Tatara led off the second inning with a single, and would move up to second on an Asselanis groundout. Eric Falvey followed with a single to move Tatara to third. Olivia would later score on an Alex Tenney RBI double to right to give UMW a 1-0 lead.

The Eagles would add to their lead, getting three runs in the fifth. Bireet Chitty led off the inning by reaching on an error. After a Scites single, Chitty moved up to second. Hannah Otterman followed Scites by reaching on an error, scoring Chitty. Brittnee Haynes would come up and hit a sac fly to left, scoring Scites. Otterman would score the third run after a throwing error on the catcher, to give the Eagles a 4-0 lead.

Hannah Otterman pitched a one hit shutout in game one. Otterman struck out five, only walking one batter in the win.

UMW started game two the way they left game one, scoring in the top of the first inning. Kate Chisholm started off the game with a walk, and would later score on a wild pitch to give the Eagles an early 1-0 lead. In the second inning, Brianna D'Agata led off with a double, and scored on a RBI single by Hannah Williams. The Eagles would score again in their half of the seventh, with a RBI single from Chitty, scoring Williams. 

Rachel Watts pitched five scoreless innings to earn her second win of the year. Otterman came in to record the two inning save for the Eagles.

UMW returns to the diamond tomorrow with a twinbill at Penn State-Harrisburg, beginning at 1:00 p.m.
