UMW Softball Defeats Stevenson 3-1; Game Two Postponed Due to Rain

Fredericksburg, Va.-- The University of Mary Washington softball team defeated Stevenson, 3-1 in the first of a double header on Sunday. Game two was postponed due to rain, with no make up scheduled. UMW moves to 2-1 on the year.

The Mustangs got on the board first in the top of the second. Lindsay Kuczak doubled to left field with two outs, before a Morgan Wolfe single put runners on the corners. Tiffany Kahl singled to center driving Kuczak in from third.

UMW answered in their half of the fourth. Olivia Tatara singled, followed by an Alex Tenney triple to center bringing Tatara home. Brittnee Haynes followed that up by getting hit by a pitch, putting runners on the corners. Haynes advance to second on a throw back to third, and Hannah Williams doubled to left on the next pitch, scoring both Tenney and Haynes.

Thats all the scoring the Hannah Otterman would need, as she pitched a complete game only giving up five hits. Otterman gave up just the one run, while striking out seven Mustangs.

UMW returns to action on Wednesday, March 5th at Catholic. The twinbill with the Cardinals begins at 2:30 p.m.
