The University of Mary Washington softball team scored eight runs in the final three innings to top Eastern Mennonite University, 10-7, in game one of their Wednesday doubleheader in Harrisonburg, Va., and dropped the nightcap, 5-3, in the final nonconference games of the season for the Eagles.

In the opener, UMW scored twice in the third inning, as Hannah Williams, Brandee Adams, and Bireet Chitty singled to load the bases, and Kerry Busby followed with a two-run single. After the Royals scored three times in the fourth, UMW reclaimed the lead with two in the fifth as Busby provided another two-run single.

UMW scored three in the sixth and three in the seven to put the game away. In the sixth, Brandee Adams provided a two-run single, stole second, and scored on a Bireet Chitty single. In the seventh, Hannah Otterman douled home Emily Briggs, and Stefannie Asselanis singled home Otterman and Alex Tenney.
