UMW Softball Splits Pair with McDaniel

The University of Mary Washington softball team split its Saturday doubleheader with McDaniel College, moving to 2-2 on the year. The Eagles won the opener, 4-2, and fell in eight innings in the nightcap, 4-3.

In the opener, pitcher Annie Blaine limited the Green Teror to one infield hit through six innings. UMW scored twice in the first as Bireet Chitty walked and Brandee Adams followed with a double. Adams scored on a wild pitch. UMW added a single run in the second when Brittany Scites singled and scored on a Chitty single.

The Eagles scored again when Annie Blaine doubled and scored on another Chitty single. Chitty and Blaine led UMW with two hits each. Blaine allowed two earned runs on four hits walking one and striking out four.

UMW jumped out to a 3-1 lead in the second game, but the Green Terror answered with two in the seventh and one in the eight for the win. Brandee Adams and Morgan lamon each had two hits in UMW's five-hit game. Freshman Hannah Otterman allowed two earned runs in eight innings, with one walk and nine strikeouts.

The Eagles will return to action on Sunday when they host Shenandoah University at 12:30 p.m. for a twinbill.
