UMW Softball Drops Pair at Bridgewater

The University of Mary Washington softball team dropped a doubleheader at Bridgewater College on Thursday, dropping the opener 8-0 and the second game, 2-1. The Eagles fall to 9-9 on the season.

In game one, the Eagles managed just two hits (singles from Kerry Busby and Morgan Lamon) and Bridgewater scored four times in the fourth and three in the game-ending sixth in an 8-0 win. Junior Annie Blaine took the loss, allowing four earned runs in 3.1 innings on seven hits with one walk and four strikeouts.

In the second game, UMW scored in the first, as Amanda Adams, Lamon, and freshman pitcher Hannah Otterman hit consecutive singles. Bridgewater tied the game in the fifth and got the win in the bottom of the seventh. UMW outhit Bridgewater in the game, 8-4, as Otterman was again in top form, scattering four hits in 6.2 innings with no earned runs, four walks, and five strikeouts.

Offensively, UMW was led by Busby's two singles and walk, Lamon's single and double, and Koah Chitty's double.

Mary Washington will host Eastern Mennonite University on Saturday at 12:30 p.m. for a doubleheader.
