UMW Softball Sweeps York in CAC Twinbill


The University of Mary Washington softball team swept a doubleheader from York College in Capital Athletic Conference action on Tuesday afternoon. The Eagles won the opener, 5-3, and won the second game, 5-1, to improve to 16-11 overall, and 6-0 in league play.

In the opener, the Eagles rapped out 12 hits in scoring five runs in a 5-3 win. Senior first baseman Morgan Lamon continued her torrid hitting, going 4-4 with a run scored and an RBI. Brandee Adams and Hannah Williams each had two hits for UMW. Junior Annie Blaine gained the win, scattering 12 hits and three earned runs with one walk and five strikeouts.

In the second game, freshman pitcher Hannah Otterman scattered seven hits and one earned run while walking one and striking out five, and also led the way at the plate with three hits, including a double. Brandee Adams singled and doubled for the Eagles, and the Eagles took advantage of three Spartan errors in the field.

Mary Washington will return to action on Thursday when they host Randolph-Macon College at 3:00 p.m. for a doubleheader.
