UMW Softball Tops Frostburg, 8-0 in Five Innings, in CAC Tourney 2nd Round

The University of Mary Washington softball team erupted for five runs in the first inning en route to a five-inning, 8-0 victory over third seeded Frostburg State University on Thursday in the second round of the Capital Athletic Conference Tournament. The Eagles improve to 24-16 overall, and 2-0 in the tournament. 

The Eagles bats came out on fire as they batted around the order in the first inning, scoring five runs on four hits. Junior catcher Kerry Busby led the team, picking up two hits including a bases-loaded double to knock in three runs. Senior Michelle Durnavich homered to right field to drive in the Eagles' final two runs in the third inning that proved to end the game early. Designated hitter Hannah Williams also had two RBI in the game.

Freshmen pitcher Hannah Otterman threw five scoreless innings, surrendering only four hits while striking out five batters with no walks.

The Eagles head into the weekend portion of the double-eiliminataion conference championship where they will face host and top seed Salisbury on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. The tournament will continue through Sunday.
