Conway Wins 400th as UMW Softball Sweeps Hood

Head Coach Dee Conway won her 400th career softball game as the University of Mary Washington softball team swept a doubleheader from Hood College, 4-3 and 13-3, on Thursday in Frederick, Md. The Eagles improve to 12-16 on the season.

In the opener, catcher Kerry Busby (Kennet, Pa., Kennett) scored the game-winning run on a passed ball in the eighth inning to give UMW a milestone win for Conway. Junior Amanda Adams (Ashburn, Va., Stone Bridge) led the Eagles at the plate with a pair of hits and two runs scored. Junior Nicole Black (Stafford, Va., North Stafford) earned the win, striking out seven and scattering nine hits in eight innings.

The second game saw the Eagles offense erupt for 13 runs on 13 hits. Amanda Adams once again led the Eagles with a double, home run, two runs scored, and two RBI, while Bireet Chitty (Stafford, Va., Brooke Point) had three hits. Morgan Lamon (Herndon, Va., Oakton) and Alyssa Hara (Stafford, Va., North Stafford) each had two hits for the Eagles. Danielle Cunetta (Lake Ronokonkoma, N.Y., Sachem) got the win by allowing no earned runs in five innings.

The Eagles will visit Salisbury University on Saturday for a CAC doubleheader starting at 12:30 p.m.
