UMW Softball Drops Pair at CNU
The University of Mary Washington softball team dropped a pair of games at Christopher Newport University on Wednesday afternoon to fall to 5-13 on the season. Game scores were 8-1 and 12-1.

In the opener, the Eagles fell victim to a six-run second inning by the hosts in falling 8-1. Sophomore Brandee Adams (Waverly, Va., Tidewater Academy) and Kerry Busby (Kennet, Pa., Kennett) each had two hits to lead the Eagles' eight-hit attack. Inside the circle, Nicole Black (Stafford, Va., North Stafford) took the loss, allowing six runs in 1.2 innings.

In the second game, the Eagles were limited to three hits and committed four errors in a 12-1 defeat. Kathryn Lohr (Fairfax, Va., Robinson) singled and later scored on a Morgan Lamon (Herndon, Va., Oakton) single to plate the Eagle run. Julianne Sweat (Chesterfield, Va., Cosby) pitched well for 4.1 innings of relief, and also had a hit for UMW.

The Eagles will host Mary Baldwin College on Saturday at noon.
