UMW Softball Splits Pair at Methodist Tournament

The University of Mary Washington softball team split a pair of games at the Methodist University Tournament on Friday, topping Wilson College, 8-0, before falling to Peace College, 6-2. UMW moves to 1-5 on the year.

In the win over Wilson, the Eagles scored twice in the second and six times in the fifth. Kerry Busby (Kennet, Pa., Kennett) hit a three-run homer for the Eagles, while Kathryn Lohr (Fairfax, Va., Robinson) had an RBI double and scored twice. Elizabeth Crowe (Alexandria, Va., West Potomac) had an RBI hit and scored a run as well for UMW.

Crowe allowed four hits in five innings, allowing one walk and striking out six in gaining the shutout.

Against Peace College, each team scored twice in the first, but Peace went ahead with three runs in the second and held on for the 6-2 win. First baseman Morgan Lamon (Herndon, Va., Oakton) led the Eagles with a 3-3 day, while Crowe and Busby each had two hits.

Nicole Black (Stafford, Va., North Stafford) took the loss for UMW allowing five runs on seven hits in five innings, with four walks and three strikeouts.

The Eagles will continue at the event on Saturday.
