UMW Softball Drops Pair at Randolph-Macon

The University of Mary Washington softball team dropped a pair of games at Randolph-Macon College to fall to 0-4 on the season on Wednesday afternoon in Ashland. The Yellow Jackets won the opener, 3-0, before taking the nightcap, 8-0.

In the opener, UMW outhit the hosts, 7-5, but were unable to push across a run in a 3-0 defeat. Catcher Kerry Busby (Kennet, Pa., Kennett) had two hits to lead the Eagles.Elizabeth Crowe (Alexandria, Va., West Potomac) was the tough-luck loser on the bump, allowing one run on three hits in 4.2 innings, walking two and striking out five.

In game two, the Eagles were limited to one hit, by centerfielder Koah Chitty (Stafford, Va., Brooke Point), in the five inning, 8-0 loss. Nicole Black (Stafford, Va., North Stafford) took the loss for UMW, allowing three runs in 2.1 innings.

The Eagles will be back in action on Friday and Saturday in the Methodist University Invitataional in Fayetteville, N.C.
