UMW Softball Falls to Stevenson, 6-4, in CAC Tournament

The University of Mary Washington softball team saw its season come to an end with a 6-4 defeat to Stevenson University on Saturday in Salisbury, Md. in the Capital Athletic Conference Tournament. 

The Eagles jumped out to a 4-0 lead, thanks to three runs in the first and one in the third. The Mustangs answered with one run in the fourth, three in the fifth, and one each in the sixth and seventh to take the victory and advance in the tournament.

Mary Washington was led at the plate by sophomore Morgan Lamon (Herndon, Va., Oakton), who had three hits and two RBI. Sophomore Elizabeth Crowe (Alexandria, Va., West Potomac), who had two hits in two at bats with two runs scored and two walks. Brandee Adams (Waverly, Va., Tidewater Academy), Kaitlin Petrella (Leesburg, Va., Heritage), and Danielle Cunetta (Lake Ronokonkoma, N.Y., Sachem) each had two hits for the Eagles.

Cunetta allowed five runs in 4.1 innings on seven hits and one walk, with three strikeouts. Annie Blaine (Arlington, Va., Yorktown) pitched a scoress 1/3 inning of relief, before Crowe allowed one earned run in two innings.

The Eagles close the season with a final record of 9-26-1.
