UMW Softball Falls at York in CAC Tourney Second Round, 9-3


The University of Mary Washington softball team dropped a 9-3 decision at York College on Thursday in York, Pa. The Eagles fall to 9-25-1 on the season. 

York jumped ahead with three runs in the second inning, but the Eagles answered with one in the third when Danielle Cunetta (Lake Ronokonkoma, N.Y., Sachem) doubled and scored on a Brandee Adams (Waverly, Va., Tidewater Academy) single. York erupted for five runs in the fifth inning. Mary Washington added a pair of runs in the sixth whe Kaitlin Petrella (Leesburg, Va., Heritage) knocked an RBI triple and scored on Amanda Adams (Ashburn, Va., Stone Bridge)'s RBI groundout.

Brandee Adams and Petrella each had two hits and an RBI to lead Mary Washington. Freshman Annie Blaine (Arlington, Va., Yorktown) took the loss for the Eagles despite not allowing an earned run in 1.2 innings.She allowed three hits and struck out one batter.

The Eagles will face Stevenson University at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday at Salisbury University in the weekend portion of the CAC Tournament in an elimination game.
