UMW Softball Falls Twice to #15 Salisbury in CAC Twinbill
GAME ONE  |  GAME TWO

The University of Mary Washington softball team dropped a pair of games to 15th-ranked Salisbury University, 3-0 and 3-2, on Saturday for senior day at the Battleground. The Eagles fall to 8-24-1 overall and 6-6 in league play.

In the opener, Salisbury scored once in the fourth inning and twice more in the sixth for a 3-0 victory. UMW had four hits in the game from four different players, all singles. Danielle Cunetta (Lake Ronokonkoma, N.Y., Sachem) took the loss for UMW allowing three runs on five hits in 5.1 innings.

The second game saw the Eagles fall behind, 3-0, but plate a pair of runs in the bottom of the seventh before loading the bases with one out. A fielder's choice groundout to the plate and a fielder's choice ended the Eagle rally before the tying run could score.

Offensively, seniors Kaitlin Petrella (Leesburg, Va., Heritage) and Kim Olinger (Bealeton, Va., Liberty), playing in their final home game, each had two hits, as did freshman Brandee Adams (Waverly, Va., Tidewater Academy). Freshman Annie Blaine (Arlington, Va., Yorktown) took the loss allowing three runs on 10 hits in seven innings.

The Eagles will visit Hood College on Tuesday at 4:00 p.m. in the first round of the CAC Tournament. Hood is seeded third, and UMW fourth in the tournament.
