UMW Softball Drops Twinbill to Virginia Wesleyan College

The University of Mary Washington softball team dropped a doubleheader to visiting Virginia Wesleyan College, 6-3 and 6-3, on Wednesday at the Battleground. The Eagles fall to 8-22-1 overall.

In the opener, the Eagles scored twice in the first to take an early lead, but the Marlins scored four times in the fifth and two more in the sixth for the win. The Eagles were led at the plate by Elizabeth Crowe, who went 3-4 with a run scored and RBI. Koah Chitty had a pair of hits and two runs scored for UMW.

The nightcap saw the Eagles take a 1-0 lead, only to see the Mrlins tie the score in the sixth. Virginia Wesleyan erupted for five runs in the eighth, which was too much for the Eagles, but Crowe did smash a two-run homer in the bottom of the frame to push the final to 6-3.

Crowe was 2-3 with one run scored and two RBI on the homer.Amanda Adams doubled and scored a run for Mary Washington.

The Eagles will host Salisbury University on Saturday at 12:30 p.m. for a CAC doubleheader.
