UMW Softball Team Sweeps Two From Wesley in CAC Action

The University of Mary Washington softball team swept a Capital Athletic Conference doubleheader from Wesley College on Saturday, winning the opener 11-1 in five innings before winning the second in come-from-behind fashion, 5-4.

In the opener, senior Kaitlin Petrella (Leesburg, Va., Heritage) went 2-3 with a single and home run with two runs scored and five RBI. Katie Sterling was 1-1 with a run scored and two RBI, and Kim Olinger added an RBI single and scored a run. Freshman Annie Blaine allowed one earned run in five innings with four hits with one walk and two strikeouts.

In the second game, the Eagles fell behind 4-1 in the third, but scored single runs in the fourth, fifth, sixth, and seventh innings, with the leadoff hitter scoring each of the runs, as UMW scored the 5-4 win. Amanda Adams (Ashburn, Va., Stone Bridge) and Krissy Leber (Mechanicsville, Va., Atlee) each had three hits for the Eagles. Danielle Cunetta picked up the win for the Eagles, allowing four runs and seven hits in seven innings.
