UMW Softball Drops Doubleheader at Catholic University

The University of Mary Washington softball team dropped a pair of games at Catholic University on Wednesday to fall to 4-10 on the season. The Eagles dropped the opener, 1-0, and fell in the nightcap, 6-1.

In the opener, Koah Chitty (Stafford, Va., Brooke Point) provided the Eagles' only hit, as UMW lost a pitcher's duel, 1-0. Sophomore pitcher Elizabeth Crowe (Alexandria, Va., West Potomac) allowed just one run in six innings, with two walks, four hits, and six strikeouts. Catholic scored its run in the third inning.

The second game saw Catholic jump out to a 6-0 lead before the Eagles scored one in the fourth as senior shortstop Kaitlin Petrella (Leesburg, Va., Heritage) provided one her her two hits, a double, and scored on a Morgan Lamon (Herndon, Va., Oakton) single.

Freshman Annie Blaine (Arlington, Va., Yorktown) took the loss for the Eagles, with Danielle Cunetta (Lake Ronokonkoma, N.Y., Sachem) pitching 4.1 quality innings of relief without an earned run allowed.

The Eagles will be back in action on Saturday when they visit Lynchburg College at 1:00 p.m. for a doubleheader.
