Eagle Women Win Kerr Cup Women’s DIII 4+ final

Mary Washington entered eight boats in the Kerr Cup regatta, hosted by Drexel University on Saturday, 16 April 2016 on the Schuylkill River in Philadelphia.  The Kerr Cup was a large one day regatta with 218 entries from 35 different universities. 

Two UMW crews were entered in the women’s DIII varsity 4+ race, with both crews advancing to the final.  The Eagles crew of Sam Lancke, Emily Dzubak, Alli Jakubek, Maura Slocum, and coxswain Rachael Harvey won the final in a time of 8:04.31, beating the second place boat by two boat lengths.  The second UMW entry took fourth place in the final. 

The men’s varsity 8+ placed fourth in their heat race, but qualified for the petite final based on overall time.  They took second place in the petite final, finishing in 8th place out of 14 teams entered. 

Two crews were entered in the women’s DIII varsity 8+ race, with the top entry advancing to the final where they placed 5th, finishing in 5th place out of 15 teams entered. 

The men’s second varsity 8+ qualified for the petite final, which they won, finishing overall in 7thplace out of 10 teams entered. 

The men’s varsity 4+ finished overall in 7th place, just missing the cut for the final, although out of 21 teams, they posted the sixth fastest time. 

In the men’s second varsity 4+ race, UMW placed 5th out of 6 crews.  The men’s varsity pair crew of Kyle Moran and TJ Muratore placed second in their heat, qualifying them for the final, but had to scratch the final so they could race in the varsity 8+ petite final. 

The UMW women’s pair, in their first race in a pair boat, rowed well but did not make the finals.
