Two Eagles Crews Win Medals at Mid-Atlantic Rowing Conference Championships

UMW entered 8 boats in the Mid-Atlantic Rowing Conference championships regatta, hosted by Susquehanna University at Gifford Pinchot Lake and State Park, Lewisberry, PA on Saturday, 30 April 2016.  This was a one-day mid-size regatta with 106 entries representing a total of 21 different universities.  UMW finished a very successful spring season with a strong showing, with five out of 8 boats racing in finals and two crews winning medals.

The UMW Women’s pair of Anna Beardsley and Shelby Blevins won third place medals in their finals race.

The UMW Women’s varsity 4+ crew of Sam Lancke, Emily Dzubak, Alli Jakubek, Maura Slocum, and coxswain Rachael Harvey advanced to the final with a second place finish in the heat race.  They won third place medals in their final, losing to Lafayette and Loyola Maryland, but besting seven other crews in the process.

The women’s freshman/novice 4+ took second in their heat race, but placed sixth in the finals race.

The men’s varsity 4+ placed second in their heat race behind Lafayette with an excellent time of 7:06.02, but failed to qualify for the 6-boat final, finishing overall in eighth place out of 20 crews.

The women’s club varsity 8+ crew finished second in their heat race, advancing to the finals where they placed fourth, just missing the medals.

The men’s second varsity 8+ took fourth place in their heat race and did not qualify for the finals.

The men’s varsity 8+ took third place in their heat behind Marietta and George Mason, qualifying for the finals where they finished in sixth place behind the crews from Bucknell, Marietta, Washington College, George Mason, and Penn State.
