Ladehoff's 3rd Set Breaker Win Lifts #22 UMW Men's Tennis Past #21 TCNJ

The 22nd ranked University of Mary Washington men's tennis team fought off a stiff challenge from 21st ranked College of New Jersey on Sunday in Ewing, N.J., claiming an exciting 5-4 win. The clinching point went to junior Brock Ladehoff, who scored a 3-6, 6-1, 7-6 (3) singles victory at two.

The Eagles opened the day with two doubles wins. Rishi Charan Shankar and Peter Leese gained an 8-5 win at one, and Trevor Rein and Evan Fisher added an 8-5 win at two.

In singles, Leese scored a quick 6-2, 6-3 win at five, and Rein gained a 2-6, 6-3, 6-4 win at four to put the Eagles one point away. The homestanding Lions knotted the team score at 4-4, with Ladehoff gaining the decisive point as the last player on.

UMW closes the regular season with a record of 14-7, and will host the Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference tournament next weekend at the Hegmann Family Tennis Complex at UMW.
