#18 UMW Men's Tennis Tops #37 Christopher Newport, 5-4; Helbling Wins #400

The 18th ranked University of Mary Washington men's tennis team used a strong doubles effort in defeating 37th ranked Christopher Newport University on Friday afternoon at the Battleground, as head coach Todd Helbling won his 400th match. The Eagles improve to 10-3 on the season.

The Eagles swept all three doubles matches, as Rishi Charan Shankar and Peter Leese topped Bhuvanesh Kumaresan and Vincent Truong, 8-4, at one, and Brock Ladehoff and Trevor Rein defeated Ryan Monroe and Alex Seretis at three, 8-5. Evan Fisher and Artis Hart completed the sweep with a thrilling 8-7 win at two over Ashton Legum and Edvard Porsmyr Hansen.

UMW scored wins in singles by Ladehoff at two, 4-6, 6-1, 6-2, over Porsmyr Hansen, and Rein at four, 7-6, 6-3, over Monroe.

The Eagles will be back in action on Saturday with matches against Carnegie Mellon and Pfeiffer.
