University of Mary Washington seniors Rishi Charan Shankar and Peter Leese captured the ITA Regional doubles championship on Sunday at the Battleground, defeating Daniel Kong and Raghav Jangbahadur of Carnegie Mellon University by a score of 8-2. 

Charan Shankar and Leese started the morning with an 8-4 victory over Derek Wong and Akshay Joshi of Johns Hopkins in semifinal action, and then cruised to an 8-2 win in the final, breaking serve three times while holding serve throughout.

UMW sees a doubles champion for the seventh time, including the third time in six years. The Eagles have also claimed three singles titles since 2003.

The pair will advance to the ITA Cup, held in Rome, Ga., starting on October 12.
