#18 UMW Men's Tennis Captures C2C Championship, 5-0, Over CNU

The 18th ranked University of Mary Washington men's tennis team defeated Christopher Newport University, 5-0, on Sunday in the Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference Championship at the UMW Indoor Tennis Center. The Eagles claim their 25th CAC/C2C Championship, and improve to 15-5 on the season.

The Eagles opened the day continuing their stellar doubles play, taking all three matches. Senior Moses Hutchison and junior Andrew Watson defeated Ryan Macy and Alec Strause at one, 8-3, and sophomores Rishi Charan Shankar and Nick Spera downed Paul Baron and Mason Kolls at two, 8-4. Senior Cole Tecce and sophomore Peter Leese completed the sweep with an 8-3 win at three over Matthew Dubuque and Ashton Legum.

The Eagles continued to hld the momentum in singles, as all six flights won their first sets. Watson was first to complete his match, downing Eddy Porsmyr Hansen at three, 6-0, 6-2, boosting the team score to 4-0. Spera gained the clinching point at five, with a 6-4, 6-2 win over Dubuque.

The Eagles capture the league title for the 25th time, and will advance to the NCAA Tournament next weekend with first-third round action. The tournament bracket will be announced on Monday.
