The 22nd ranked University of Mary Washington men's tennis team dwept a 9-0 decision from 40th ranked Christopher Newport University on Friday evening at the UMW Indoor Tennis Center. The Eagles improve to 8-3 on the season.
The Eagles opened by winning all three doubles matches. Senior Moses Hutchison and junior Andrew Watson defeated Ryan Macy and Alec Strause, 8-3, at one, sophomore Rishi Charan Shankar and sophomore Nick Spera topped Paul Baron and Mason Kolls, 8-5, at two, and sophomore Peter Leese and senior Cole Tecce defeated Eddy Porsmyr Hansen and Ashton Legum, 8-2, at three.
In singles, Hutchison defeated Macy, 6-1, 6-3, at one, Charan Shankar beat Strause, 6-2, 4-6, 7-5, at two, and Watson topped Hansen, 4-6, 6-1, 10-2, at three. Tecce scored a 1-6, 6-4, 6-4 win at four over Ahun Vodela, Spera scored a 6-2, 6-1 win at five over Tyler Hyun, and Leese topped Legum, 6-1, 6-3.
The Eagles will be back in action on Saturday at noon against Carnegie Mellon University.
