Moses Hutchison Named CAC Men's Tennis Athlete of the Week

CAC -- The Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) has announced its weekly awards following the first week of the 2020 spring tennis season. Mary Washington junior Moses Hutchison earned CAC Men's Tennis Athlete of the Week accolades, while Salisbury junior Sydney Soto collected CAC Women's Tennis Athlete of the Week honors.


MEN'S ATHLETE OF THE WEEK: Moses Hutchison - Mary Washington

Junior Moses Hutchison helped #15 Mary Washington to a 6-3 win over 21st ranked North Carolina Wesleyan College on Friday, teaming with Michael Fleming at one doubles for an 8-4 win, and then winning a three setter at one singles, 6-2, 3-6, 6-3, over Roberto Puig.


WOMEN'S ATHLETE OF THE WEEK: Sydney Soto - Salisbury

Salisbury junior Sydney Soto went 5-0 during the week to help Salisbury start the season 3-0 with wins over Millsaps, Methodist and Franklin & Marshall. Soto's highlight of the week came against Millsaps where she fought back in the third-set, facing match point, to win the match 7-6, 3-6, 7-6 over Camille Fremaux to seal the 5-4 win in the season opener on Friday.

LEAGUE NOTES

Claire Coleman notched a pair of singles and doubles wins as #15 Mary Washington opened the season with a pair of victories on Saturday. In a 9-0 win over Franklin & Marshall, Coleman teamed with Abby Moghtader to win, 8-0, at two doubles, and then won, 6-3, 6-1, at one singles over Cassidy Landau. In a 9-0 win over Methodist, Coleman and Moghtader won, 8-0, at two, and Coleman won, 6-0, 6-0, at one singles...Christopher Newport junior Kara Ferner won all four of her matches to start the spring going 2-0 in singles and 2-0 in doubles against No. 23 Washington & Lee and Millsaps College ... First, against the nationally-ranked Generals, Ferner picked up a three-set win over Anna Kreynin at No. 5 singles (0-6, 7-5, 10-7) and a win with Reagan Delp at No. 3 doubles against Valerie Marshall and Ashton Jenne (8-3) ... Then, against Millsaps, Ferner moved up to No. 4 singles and defeated Marissa Brown (4-6, 7-6, 10-5) with a win at No. 2 doubles over Maggie Dabadie and Camille Fremaux (8-3)...Scotty Hunter won both of his matches against NCAA Division II Chowan at No. 2 singles and No. 2 doubles ... Paired with Matthew Dubuque for an 8-6 win over Santino Jose Sormani and Francisco Salvatori at No. 2 doubles ... Defeated Dragan Omcikus for the win at No. 2 singles.
