The 16th ranked University of Mary Washington men's tennis team ran out to a 3-0 lead in doubles and captured three singles matches as well to defeat #31 Swarthmore College, 6-3, on Sunday at the Battleground. The Eagles improve to 17-4 on the season.
The Eagles continued their strong doubles play with a sweep. At one, Moses Hutchison and Matt Miles were victorious, 8-2, and at two, Ryland Byrd and Derek Hagino won, 8-2. Michael Fleming and Patrick Hughes won at three, 8-6, to give UMW a 3-0 advantage.
In singles, Hughes won at one, 6-4, 1-6, 6-4; Hutchison won at three, 6-2, 6-0; and Hagino won at five, 6-4, 6-2.
The Eagles will be back in action on Wednesday when they host Salisbury University in Capital Athletic Conference action.
