#13 UMW Men's Tennis Tops Washington & Lee, 7-2, on Saturday

The 13th ranked University of Mary Washington men's tennis team opened with a sweep of doubles and then took four of six singles matches in a 7-2 defeat of Washington & Lee University on Saturday at the Battleground. The Eagles improve to 6-3 on the season.

UMW picked up a quick point as Michael Fleming and Patrick Hughes won at three, 8-1. Moses Hutchison and Matt Miles followed with an 8-5 win at one, and Ryland Byrd and Derek Hagino came from behind to win, 8-7, at two.

In singles, the Generals scored a point at three and another at four, but the Eagles won at the top and at the bottom of the lineup. Miles won at one, 1-6, 6-3, 7-5, and Hughes won at two, 6-1, 6-3. Hagino won at five, 6-1, 4-6, 11-9, and Cole Tecce won at six, 6-2, 6-1.

The Eagles will return to action on Wednesday when they host Centre and visit St. Mary's College at 4 p.m.
