#19 UMW Men's Tennis Splits With #6 Claremont, Whittier on Day One of California Swing

The 19th ranked University of Mary Washington men's tennis team split a pair of matches with sixth ranked Claremont Mudd Scripps and Whittier College on Sunday in Claremont, Cal. The Eagles fell to CMS, 7-2, and topped Whittier, 9-0. The Eagles keep their record even at 3-3.

After falling in all three doubles flights, the Eagles gained wins in singles against Claremont from senior Matt Miles at one, who defeated 2018 NCAA Finalist Nikolai Parodi, 7-6, 7-6, and from sophomore Cole Tecce at five, who won, 6-1, 6-2.

In the match against Whittier, Miles and sophomore Moses Hutchison claimed the win at one doubles, Ryland Byrd and Derek Hagino won at two, and Michael Fleming and Patrick Hughes won at three to complete the sweep. In singles, Fleming won at one, Tecce won at two, Hagino won at three, Byrd won at four, Joseph Brown won at five, and Priyan Desilva at six.

The Eagles will return to action on Wednesday when they visit the University of Redlands at 4:00 pm.
