UMW Men's Tennis Posts Big Wins on Day Two of St. Joseph's Invitational

The University of Mary Washington men's tennis team scored some key victories on Saturday at the St. Joseph's Invitational in Philadelphia, Pa.

In flight three, the Eagles saw Michael Fleming top Matt Jones of Villanova, 6-2, 6-1, and then defeatedLuis Janko of St. Joseph's, 6-2, 4-6, 10-6, to advance to Sunday's semifinals. Also in flight three, Patrick Hughes defeated Adrien Crastes, 6-2, 6-2, and then beat Yousef Lahlou of Drexel, 6-3, 6-2.

In doubles action, in flight two, Joseph Brown and Fleming downed Cody Kim and Vikram Vasan of Johns Hopkins, 8-6, before defeating Zack Elliott and Gary Fishkin of Lehigh, 9-8 (2), to advance to Sunday's semifinals.

In Saturday consolation action, Ryland Byrd defeated Stimpert of Lewis, 4-6, 7-5, 10-7, and Merrill of LaSalle, 6-4, 6-3. Moses Hutchison and Matt Miles won in doubles consols over St. Joseph's, 8-6, to advance in flight one, while Patrick Hughes and Cole Tecce defeated a pair from Johns Hopkins, 8-1, to advance in flight two.

Play will conclude on Sunday, weather permitting.
