#14 UMW Men’s Tennis Drops Match to #9 Carnegie Mellon, 6-3, on Saturday

The fourteenth-ranked University of Mary Washington men's tennis team dropped their match to ninth-ranked Carnegie Mellon University, 6-3, on Saturday afternoon in Fredericksburg, Va. UMW slips to 15-3 on the season.

In doubles action, UMW took a 2-1 lead after a thrilling match in one doubles. Matt Miles and Moses Hutchison won at one doubles 8-6, while Patrick Hughes and Derek Hagino dominated in three doubles 8-2. The Tartans took two doubles 8-1.

In singles action, Carnegie Mellon took control of the match as they won five out of the six matches. Cole Tecce was the lone winner at six singles as he won 4-6, 7-5, 12-10. The Tartans took one singles 7-6 (7-4), 6-7 (9-7), 6-3; two singles 6-4, 6-2; three singles 6-0, 6-2; four singles 0-6, 6-4, 6-3; and five singles 6-7 (8-6), 7-6 (7-4), 10-7.

UMW will be back in action on Saturday as they will host Franklin and Marshall at 12 p.m. and then host St. Mary's (Md.) at 3 p.m.
