#16 UMW Men's Tennis Edges #40 Washington & Lee, 5-4, on Saturday in Lexington

The 16th ranked University of Mary Washington men's tennis team defeated 40th ranked Washington & Lee University, 5-4, on Saturday evening in Lexington, Va. The Eagles improve to 8-2 on the season.

In doubles, the Eagles gained a 3-0 advantage, as Ryland Byrd and Michael Fleming won at one, 8-4, Matt Miles and Moses Hutchison won at two, 8-2, and in a thrilling comeback, Patrick Hughes and Derek Hagino overcame a 7-2 deficit to win, 8-7, to complete the sweep.

In singles action, the Eagles picked up wins from Joseph Brown at three in three sets, 6-4, 5-7, 6-3, and from Byrd at five, 6-1, 6-3, to gain the victory.

The Eagles will return to action on Saturday, March 24, when they host Bates College at noon and York at 4 p.m.
