#29 UMW Men's Tennis Tops #22 Sewanee, #39 Coe on Saturday to Move to 4-0

The 29th ranked University of Mary Washington men's tennis team gained a thrilling 5-4 victory over 22nd ranked Sewanee - University of the South and a 6-3 win over 39th ranked Coe College on Saturday to move to 4-0 on the season.

The Eagles trailed, 2-1, after doubles against Sewanee, and fell behind 4-1 after the first two singles matches. UMW gained a win at two singles from Patrick Hughes, 3-6, 6-3, 6-2, and another from Michael Fleming at four, 6-4, 2-6, 6-4, to pull to within 4-3. Moses Hutchison won in three sets at five, 6-3, 2-6, 6-0 to tie the score, and Cole Tecce rallied to win the clincher, 6-3, 6-7 (4), 7-5.

UMW came right back to face Coe, and again fell behind, 2-1, after doubles. After Coe gained a win at one singles, the Eagles swept the rest, with Hughes winning at two, 7-6, 6-3, Fleming winning at three, 6-4, 6-2, and Moses Hutchison at four, 6-1, 6-0. Joseph Brown won at five, 6-2, 6-4, and Ryland Byrd won at six, 6-1, 6-3.

The Eagles will face Stevens on Sunday at noon.
