The 29th ranked University of Mary Washington men's tennis team picked up a pair of points in doubles and rallied in a pair of singles matches to defeat 25th ranked Kenyon College, 5-4, on Saturday night and into Sunday morning in Gambier, Ohio. The Eagles start the season 1-0.

The Eagles scored doubles victories at two, with Matt Miles and Michael Fleming picking up an 8-5 victory, and at three, with a 9-7 win from Ryland Byrd and Moses Hutchison. That point would prove to be crucial in the team decision.

With the match tied at three, UMW gained a huge boost as Patrick Hughes came all the way back from trailing 4-1, in the third set to win, 4-6, 6-2, 6-4. Freshman Cole Tecce scored the winning point at six singles, gaining a 7-5, 7-5 victory.

The Eagles will turn around and be back in action on Sunday morning when they face Kalamazoo College at 8 a.m.
