UMW Men's Tennis Fares Well on Day Two of ITA Regional; Two Doubles Teams Advance to Semifinals

The University of Mary Washington men's tennis team had a successful day two of the ITA Regional Championships on Sunday at the Battleground. Two Eagle doubles teams will square off in semifinal play on Monday, with the winner advancing to the finals.

In Sunday action, UMW's Michael Fleming and Matt Miles defeated Guilford and Ruzicka, 8-2, in quarterfinal action, while unseeded teammates Derek Hagino and Patrick Hughes topped fifth seed Fallatti and Powell, 8-5, to also advance to the semis.

In singles action, Hughes fell to fifth seed Chaz Downing, 6-0, 3-6, 6-3, in the round of 16, while Miles fell to ninth seed Cody Kim, 6-7, 6-2, 6-4. Fleming won his round of 16 match over Simon Vernier, 6-4, 6-3, but fell to top seed Daniel Levine, 6-3, 6-4.

In the Blue 1 draw, freshman Cole Tecce downed teammate Moses Hutchison in the final, 4-6, 6-4, 6-2, after both won their semifinal matches in straight sets.

Competition will resume in the championship flight on Monday morning.
