The 16th ranked University of Mary Washington men's tennis team defeated Capital Athletic Conference foes Penn State Harrisburg and York College of Pa. by 9-0 scores on Sunday. The Eagles improve to 16-6 on the season.
UMW started the day with a 9-0 win over Harrisburg. Ryland Byrd and Michael Fleming won at one doubles and Joseph Brown and Matt Miles won at two by 8-0 scores, and Patrick Hughes and Ryan Berry won at three, 8-1.
In singles, Hughes won at one, 6-1, 6-1, Fleming won at two, 6-0, 6-0, and Derek Hagino won at three, 6-1, 6-0. Brown, Max Fritsch, and Ryan Berry won at four, five, and six by 6-0, 6-0 scores.
In the afternoon, the Eagles topped York, as Byrd and Fleming won at one doubles, 8-0, Hughes and Hagino won at two, 8-1, and Fritsch and Miles won at three, 8-0.
In singles play, Miles won at one, 6-0, 6-3, Brown won at two, 6-1, 6-1, and Hagino won at three, 6-1, 6-2. Byrd won at four, 6-0, 6-1, Fritsch won at five, 6-1, 6-1, and Hughes won at six, 6-1, 6-0.
The Eagles close the regular season with a 16-6 record. They will host a Capital Athletic Conference semifinal on April 18.
