#16 UMW Men's Tennis Tops Frostburg, Falls to #37 Swarthmore on Sunday

The 16th ranked University of Mary Washington men's tennis team defeated Capital Athletic Conference foe Frostburg State University, 9-0, on Sunday morning at the Battleground, and fell, 5-4, to 37th ranked Swarthmore College in the afternoon. The Eagles move to 14-5 on the season.

The Eagles topped Frostburg by claiming all three doubles matches and all six singles points, all coming by 6-0, 6-0 scores. Max Fritsch won at one, Ryan Berry won at two, Patrick Hughes won at three, Derek Hagino won at four, and Ryland Byrd won at five. UMW won at six in a forfeit.

In doubles, Byrd and Michael Fleming won at one, 8-1, and Berry and Fritsch won at two, 8-0. UMW won at three in a forfeit.

In the afternoon match against always competitive Swarthmore, the Eagles went ahead in doubles, with Byrd and Fleming winning at one, 8-5, and Hagino and Miles winning at two, 8-6.

Swarthmore gained the upper hand in singles, as UMW gained points from Joseph Brown at four with a 7-5, 6-2 win, and from Byrd at six, who won 6-3, 6-4.

The Eagles will be back in action on Saturday when they visit Carnegie Mellon University at 10:30 a.m.
