The 27th ranked University of Mary Washington men's tennis team fell to Division I George Mason University, 5-2, on Sunday at the Battleground. The Eagles fall to 0-2 on the season, with both losses coming to DI opponents.
In doubles action, the Patriots won at two, 8-3, while Matt Miles and Derek Hagino won at three for the Eagles, 8-6. GMU gained the doubles point by taking a 9-8 (6) win at one.
In singles, UMW's Brandon Griffin picked up a point by winning at one over Pally Ray, 6-2, 6-2. The Eagles also picked up a point at four singles, as Matt Miles won, 6-2, 1-6, 6-4 over Daniel Gutierrez.
Mary Washington will be back in action next Saturday when they host Stevens institute at 9 am and Sewanee at 3 pm.
