#16 UMW Men's Tennis Tops #22 NC Wesleyan, 6-3, on Sunday to Improve to 6-0

The 16th ranked University of Mary Washington men's tennis team improved to 6-0 on the season with a 6-3 victory over North Carolina Wesleyan College on Sunday at the UMW Indoor Tennis Center. The Eagles improve to 6-0 on the year.

UMW gained a 2-1 advantage in doubles, as Alex Cragg and David Lunding-Johansson were victorious at three, 8-5, and Brandon Griffin and Stratton Gilmore won at one, 8-5.

In singles, the Eagles gained wins at five and six, with Patrick Hughes winning at five, 6-0, 6-0, and Matt Miles winning at six, 6-0, 6-2. One point from clinching, the Eagles fell at one and four, and the Bishops cut the deficit to 4-3 with two matches still playing.

UMW gained a win at three singles, with Brandon Griffin winning in three sets, 6-3, 2-6, 7-5, to claim the team victory. Lunding-Johansson then added an insurance tally with a three-set win at two, 7-6, 3-6, 6-4.

The Eagles will be back in action a week from today as they visit Whittier College at 12:00 p.m.
