David Lunding-Johansson Named CAC Men's tennis Player of the Week

YORK, Pa. -- Mary Washington junior David Lunding-Johansson and Salisbury senior Daniel Albers were named the CAC Co-Men's Tennis Players of the Week for Feb. 24, 2015.

Mary Washington junior David Lunding-Johansson was named the CAC Co-Men's Tennis Player of the Week after leading the 15th-ranked Eagles to a 5-1 start with two wins over Division I schools and two nationally-ranked teams. Lunding-Johansson has gone 5-1 in singles action and 6-0 in doubles play, primarly at No. 3 singles and No. 3 doubles. He won in three sets at No. 3 singles against George Mason, and has now won four straight in straight sets, with wins over Loyola (Md.), No. 26 Denison, No. 40 Stevens, and NC Wesleyan. At No. 3 doubles, he teamed with Eric Hurwitz to top George Mason, Longwood, and Loyola, and then teamed with Brandon Griffin to beat Denison, Stevens, and NC Wesleyan.

Salisbury senior Daniel Albers was named the CAC Co-Men's Tennis Player of the Week after posting a perfect 4-0 record in the first weekend of dual matches for the Sea Gulls, who defeated Juniata 8-1 and Bridgewater, which is ranked No. 18 in the Atlantic South Region, 8-1. Albers won two No. 1 doubles matches with partner Eric Spangler, by scores of 8-5 and 8-2. In singles play, Albers won two No. 1 matches in straight sets, 6-2, 6-2 against Dean Polisena from Juniata and 6-1, 6-3 against Bridgewater's Brandon Larson, who entered ranked No. 24 in the South Atlantic Region. A week earlier, Albers won singles and doubles titles in the Sea Gull Open - a USTA event hosted by Salisbury.

NOTES AROUND THE CONFERENCE

Christopher Newport opened the spring season with a 4-1 overall mark, including a win over Division I Longwood. Arrtu Fiva led the Captains with a perfect 3-0 record in No. 4 singles and 1-1 at No. 5. He also paired with Max Katcher for a 5-0 start at No. 3 doubles.
