UMW's Tyler Carey Named ITA All-American

University of Mary Washington senior Tyler Carey has capped his outstanding career by gaining All-America honors by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association.

Carey, the Virginia State College Division and Capital Athletic Conference Player of the Year, gained All-America status by advancing to the quarterfinals of the NCAA Championship. He becomes an All-American for the second time, as he was named All-American in 2012-13 as well.

Carey, who also advanced to the NCAA Tournament first round in doubles, gained the national Arthur Ashe, Jr. Award for Leadership and Sportsmanship this spring. He was the ITA Atlantic South Most Improved Player as well.

He becomes the fifth player in program history to gain multiple singles All-America honors, joining Conor Smith (2002, 2003), Paul Bristow (2004, 2005, 2006), John James (2007, 2008, 2009), and Randy Loden (2008, 2009).
