 Mary Washington Senior Tyler Carey Earns CAC Men's Tennis Player of the Week

YORK, Pa. -- Mary Washington senior Tyler Carey was named the CAC Men's Tennis Player of the Week for Oct. 1, 2014.

Mary Washington senior Tyler Carey was named the CAC Men's Tennis Player of the Week after turning in four singles wins in advancing to the semifinals of the ITA Southeast Regional Tournament. He defeated Carnegie Mellon's Jack Kasbeer, 6-1, 6-3, in the first round and Swarthmore's Ari Cepelewicz, 6-3, 6-0, in the second round on Saturday, before topping Salisbury's Demetri Vrahnos, 6-0, 6-3, in the round of 16 and Johns Hopkins' Noah Joachim, 3-6, 6-0, 6-2 on Sunday. Carey fell to top-seeded and eventual champion Mike Buxbaum of Johns Hopkins in the semifinals on Monday, 6-2, 6-2.

Christopher Newport freshmen Justin Cerny and David Reed advanced to the ITA Southeast Regional Championship Doubles quarterfinals. Reed also reached the Round of 16 in the Championship Singles draw. Freshman Max Katcher went 3-1 in the B2 Singles flight, capturing second place ... Mary Washington junior David Lunding-Johansson and sophomore Andrew Curtis reached the Championship Doubles semifinals. Senior Stratton Gilmore captured victories in his first three matches to advance to the Championship Singles quarterfinals, while freshman Nolan Perugini won two singles matches to reach the Round of 16 ... Salisbury seniors Daniel Albers and Demetri Vrahnos reached the Round of 16 in the Championship Singles draw, while Albers and junior Eric Spangler advanced to the quarterfinals of the Championship Doubles draw ... York senior Matt Rosenkrantz picked up a pair of wins in the Spartans' 5-4 win over Messiah on Tuesday in their only match of the week. He concludes the fall with perfect 4-0 singles and 4-0 doubles records.
