Tyler Carey Three-peats as CAC Men's Tennis Player of the Year as All-CAC Teams Announced

Mary Washington senior Tyler Carey finished his career as a four-time CAC men's tennis singles and doubles all-star, earning first-team honors in both for the third-straight season, and he became the second player in CAC history to be named Player of the Year three times to lead the 2015 All-CAC Men's Tennis Team.

Carey, who led the Eagles to their 16th-straight CAC championship and a trip to the NCAA Championship Tournament, joined former Eagle standout Conor Smith (2001-03) as the only players to win the conference men's tennis Player of the Year award three times. Two other former Eagles - Tim Martin (1998 & 2000) and John James (2007 & 2009) won the Player of the Year award twice during their careers.

It's the 10th-straight year, and the 16th time since 1998, that a Mary Washington player was named the CAC Player of the Year.

Carey, who played at the top of the Eagles' lineup for the third-straight season, was one of six UMW players to earn All-CAC singles recognition, including four on the first team. Sophomore Brandon Griffin claimed the No. 4 singles first-team All-CAC award while senior Evan Charles took the nod at No. 5 singles and freshman Eric Hurwitz was the All-CAC first-teamer at No. 6 singles.

Senior Stratton Gilmore and junior David Lunding-Johansson were second-team All-CAC honorees at second and third singles, respectively. Charles is a four-time first-team all-CAC singles choice while Griffin, the 2014 CAC Rookie of the Year, is making his second-straight appearance on the top squad. Gilmore completed his career as a two-time all-star while Lunding-Johansson is a three-time honoree, including the 2013 CAC Co-Rookie of the Year award winner.

Carey also led an Eagles' sweep of the first-team All-CAC doubles potitions. Carey paired with Charles at the No. 1 position for the third-straight season while Gilmore and Griffin were the No. 2 doubles team and Lunding-Johansson teamed with sophomore Andrew Curtis to capture first-team honors at No. 3 doubles. Like Carey, Charles finished his career as an eight-time All-CAC player, including seven first-team awards.

Completing the eight-member UMW contingent on the 2015 All-CAC Men's Tennis Team is Todd Helbling, who was honored by his peers as the CAC Coach of the Year for the 11th time in the last 14 years. He has won the Men's Tennis Coach of the Year award more than anyone else in CAC history.
