St. Mary's, Md.-- The University of Mary Washington men's tennis team downed the Seahawks, 7-2 on Thursday to move to 18-4, 6-0 CAC on the year. The Eagles won five of six singles matches, and two of three doubles matches en route to the win.
The Eagles won at number two and three doubles to take a 2-1 lead early in the match. Alex Blakhin and Andrew Curtis knocked off Robert Bishop and Jay Guzzone, 8-4 at number two, while Alex Cragg and Scott Buie were 8-1 victors against Nick Ersoy and Wyatt Paulishak at number three.
UMW took number two through six singles to cruise to victory. Stratton Gilmore picked up a win at two singles against Mark Hardesty. Gilmore won in straight sets 6-0, 6-1. Alex Blakhin and doubles partner Andrew Curtis both picked up singles wins in straight sets. Blakhin was a 6-3, 6-2 winner at three singles, while Curtis was a 6-3, 6-0 winner at number four. Scott Buie and Alex Cragg rounded out the singles points at five and six singles. Buie displaced Paulishak two and zero, with Cragg winning 6-0, 6-0 over Ersoy.
The Eagles close out the regular season against Johns Hopkins on Saturday. The match with the Blue Jays begins at 1:00 p.m. in Fredericksburg.
