Salisbury, Md.-- The #16 Mary Washington men's tennis team edged the Sea Gulls, 6-3 in CAC action on Saturday. UMW recieved big three set victories from Tyler Carey and Scott Buie to seal the victory. The Eagles move to 17-4, 5-0 CAC on the year.
The Eagles found themselves down 2-1 after doubles, as Salisbury took number one and three doubles. David Lunding-Johansson and Andrew Curtis picked up a point for the Eagles at number two. The tandem knocked off Demetri Vrahnos and Matthew McGaffney 8-1.
UMW bounced back in singles, taking five of the six matches for the win. Evan Charles picked up a straight set win at three singles, 6-4, 6-4 against Vrahnos. Lunding-Johansson and Curtis each won their respective matches at four and five. David defeated Shane Gunther 6-3, 6-2; while Curtis was a 6-3, 6-2 winner against McGaffney. Tyler Carey needed three sets against Daniel Albers, but picked up a 2-6, 6-0, 6-3 win at one. Scott Buie provided the other point, winning 6-1, 5-7, 6-4 over Shanon Gunther at six singles.
The Eagles are back in action on Tuesday, April 15th. The Eagles will travel to St. Mary's (Md.) for the final CAC contest of the year, starting at 4:00 p.m.
