Fredericksburg, Va.-- The #17 UMW men's tennis team fell to #11 Carnegie Mellon, 6-3 on Sunday. Tyler Carey picked up a big win at one singles against the number one singles player in Division III. The Eagles 12-3 on the year.
Carey picked up the big three set victory at one singles, over CMU's Abhishnek Alla. Carey won the first set 6-4, and found himself on the wrong end of a 6-1 second set. Tyler fought his way back, winning the third set 6-4 to earn the win.
Tyler then teamed up with Evan Charles to win their doubles match, 8-6 over C. Heaney-Seacord and Will Duncan at number one. Alex Blakhin and Andrew Curtis gave the Eagles their only other point at three doubles, with a 9-8 (17-15) decision over Kiril Kirkov and Kunal Wadwani.
The Eagles are back in action on Sunday, March 30th. The Eagles will travel to Division I Longwood. The match with the Lancers begins at 1:00 p.m.
