Fredericksburg, Va.-- The #17 University of Mary Washington men's tennis team defeated #25 Bates 6-3 on Saturday. The Eagles won all three doubles, and three singles matches en route to the victory. UMW is now 12-2 on the year.
Evan Charles and Tyler Carey came back from a 5-2 deficit at one doubles to claim a victory. The duo won six straight games to defeat Timmy Berg and Pierre Planche 8-5. Brandon Griffin and Stratton Gilmore defeated Ben Bogard and Patrick Ordway 8-3 at two doubles, while Alex Blakhin and Andrew Curtis claimed a victory at three doubles, 8-6.
Blakhin, Charles and Curtis also turned in singles wins for the Eagles. Blakhin was a 6-3, 7-5 winner at three singles over Christopher Ellis. Charles downed Brent Feldman at four singles 6-4, 6-1. Curtis was a 7-6, 3-6, 6-3 at six singles.
The Eagles will face #11 Carnegie Mellon tomorrow, March 23rd starting at 10:00 a.m. at the UMW Tennis Center.
