Claremont, Ca.-- The #17 University of Mary Washington men's tennis team fell 5-4 against the Sagehens on Thursday. UMW won three singles matches, but only won one doubles match on the day. The loss is the first for the Eagles, as they drop to 7-1 on the year.
Brandon Griffin and Stratton Gilmore won the only doubles match for the Eagles. The duo defeated Connor Hudson and Spencer Simonides, 9-8 (7-3).
UMW got three singles wins at four, five and six singles. Griffin picked up a win at six singles over Michael Chang; 6-4, 4-6, 7-5. Alex Blakhin and David Lunding-Johansson were the other Eagle winners. Blakhin won 7-6 (10-8), 6-4 over Jonathon Kim at five singles, while Lunding-Johansson won 7-5, 7-6 (8-6) against Kevin Wei at four singles.
The Eagles conclude their California road swing against Redlands on March 8th at 5:00 p.m.
